About The Hayes Presidential Center

The Hayes Presidential Center, Inc. operates and manages the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center. A non-profit entity, it receives the majority of its funding through the Rutherford B. Hayes–Lucy Webb Hayes Foundation. The State of Ohio also provides an annual appropriation administered through the Ohio Historical Society. The Hayes Presidential Center includes the home, library, museum, tomb, and 25-acre park-like estate (called Spiegel Grove) of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes. Entrance to the property is through the original gates from the White House.

Job Description
Position title: Executive Director Company: The Hayes Presidential Center

The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center, established in 1916 as the first Presidential Center, seeks an experienced and motivated Executive Director to coordinate, manage, and oversee all operations of the Hayes Home, Museum, and Research Library. The Center, located on the 25-acre historic Spiegel Grove site in Fremont, Ohio, is affiliated with the Ohio Historical Society. The Executive Director oversees a staff of 16 full-time and 24 part-time employees and manages a budget of $1,300,000.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience in a museum or related educational organization.
  • Knowledge of and passion for American and Ohio history, especially the Gilded Age and the life of Rutherford B. Hayes.
  • The ability to provide strategic direction working in a team environment.
  • Undergraduate degree from a four year college or university is required; an advanced degree in Museum Studies, History, or a related field is strongly preferred.
